One of the main inspirations behind Yolancris’ creations is definitely music. From rock , to jazz, to blues, to pop, women from the music industry worldwide have been inspiring us in creating special dresses for their wedding days. Today, the 22nd of November 2021, Spain celebrates the International Music Day and we want to celebrate it with you! Here is a little recap of our favorite wedding dresses throughout history, worn of course by music icons.
Cher, 1975
Cher got married to Gregg Allman on June 30th 1975 in Las Vegas, only three days after her divorce with previous husband, Sonny Bono. Even though the marriage only lasted for nine days, the dress worn by the singer has definitely stayed intact in our minds.
Madonna, 1985
Madonna and Sean Penn got married at a clifftop mansion in Malibu, California, on August 16 1985. Their wedding day was also Madonna’s 27th birthday. The top-secret wedding ceremony was celebrated among many famous friends including Tom Cruise, Andy Warhol, Cher, Martin Sheen, Rob Lowe, Carrie Fisher, Diane Keaton, David Letterman and many others.
Madonna wore a design by Marlene Stewart, who also designed the costumes for the ‘The Virgin Tour’. The dress was stunning, comprised of a sheath, strapless bodysuit with a sweetheart neckline in taffeta and chiffon with overlapping layers of pleated white tulle.
“And I looked really close at Madonna and she is beautiful. And she and Sean are just so in love. She wore white, and a black bowler hat, I don’t know what that was supposed to mean.” – Andy Warhol
Whitney Houston, 1992
Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown got married July 18th 1992 in New Jersey.
The singer wore a beaded veil and a Marc Bouwer-designed high-neck gown made of ivory satin, recently sold in an auction. The dress came with a floor-length silk veil, matching bead and sequin cloche hat, and was reported to have cost $40,000.
Celine Dion, 1994
Celine Dion got married to producer René Angelil in the year of 1994 after being in a secret relationship after some years. The couple chose Montreal for their wedding ceremony. “Celine Dion wore a dress designed by Mirella and Steve Gentile adorned with a 6-meter-long train, whose lace and crystals would have required 1000 hours of work. The whole thing was accompanied by a mythical headdress made of 2000 Swarosvki crystals weighing more than 3 kilos.” – Vogue France
