Karen Vega is the first Oaxacan model to be the cover of Vogue. Inspired by Yalitza Aparicio, the young model, that has recently modelled for the Mexican designer Barragán and signed with the model agency Talento Espina, stars in the editorial Valles Centrales.
As the first Oaxacan model, Vega tells Vogue that “I feel that [the modeling industry] is changing and that is why I am here, but it is still a little while before the women of the south are also taken into account equally. In this part of Mexico, it is difficult to achieve what they ask for or the type of beauty they seek in most castings. […] There are very high standards for modeling in Mexico and many of us do not have the size, height, or skin colour. “
The Valles Centrales fashion editorial, captured by the photographer
Enrique Leyva and styled by Diego Ibáñez, takes the landscapes of Teotitlán, in the south of the country, as the background scenery. With outfits that mix international designers with traditional details, the editorial breathes eclecticism and contemporaneity using resources such as the mix of textures, overlaying or maxi accessories. From Yolancris, the model wears a pastel green tulle dress with 3D rhinestones and 3D flowers from the SS19 collection.
